Mark Rushton's Commercial Discography

with short comments

  • The Flood by Mark Rushton and Jon Harnish
An album tentatively scheduled for release in 2009, it'll be available on iTunes, AmazonMP3.com, Napster, Rhapsody, Ruckus, and other digital content providers through my longtime affiliation with CDBaby as a digital distribution portal.  The Flood's title track is a 22 minute and 48 second ambient piece that has three different sections, and was recorded at Public Space One in Iowa City on October 19, 2008.  It's an incredible piece of music/sound art.  The Flood will feature other pieces of music, as well.

  • Untitled Release by Mark Rushton and Jon Harnish with Craig Erickson
Jon and I recorded with guitarist Craig Erickson at Public Space One in Iowa City on November 2, 2008.  There are several tracks which will likely be released, including "Bathyscaphe", "Challenger Deep", "Circadian Drift", "Hotel Jefferson", "Piezoelectric", and "A Short Drive Through Kingston".  We're not sure if this will be an EP or expanded into a full album release.

  • Esker EP by Mark Rushton and Jon Harnish
Released in late 2008 as a free EP, and also commercially at AmazonMP3.com as a way to test out CreateSpace.com, it features improvisational instrumental ambient drift music with some rhythms.  Recorded at Public Space One in Iowa City on October 19. 2008.

  • Ornate Culmination by Mark Rushton and Jon Harnish
Released in the late summer of 2008, these were the last recordings done by Mark Rushton and Jon Harnish at Jon's Weather Excuse studio in Cedar Rapids before it was destroyed by flooding in June.  The music is improvisational instrumental drifting ambient with some rhythms.  Available at iTunes, Napster, CDBaby, CafePress, Rhapsody, Amazon, and Last.fm.

  • Mark Rushton and Jon Harnish
Released in early 2008, these recordings were based on loops created at Jon's Weather Excuse studio in late 2005-early 2006 and mixed together with live recordings captured at the Ambient Matyk Cafe and at Mark's East Highlands Studio.  Very quiet, ambient, and winter-ish, some tracks were featured in a past podcast called "What Does An Iowa Winter Sound Like?"  Available at iTunes, Napster, CDBaby, CafePress, Rhapsody, Amazon, and Last.fm.

  • Flow by Mark Rushton
Released in early 2008, this is an extremely mellow ambient album dedicated to the late Chuck Bird.  No beats at all.  Very hypnotic.  Available at iTunes, Napster, CDBaby, CafePress, Rhapsody, Amazon, Pandora, and Last.fm.

  • Regeneration X by Mark Rushton
Released in 2007, this album is a compilation of mostly beat-oriented, post-rock instrumentals with a few ambient-ish tracks.  There's no concept here, just a lot of excellent music.  Available at iTunes, Napster, CDBaby, CafePress, Rhapsody, Amazon, and Last.fm.

  • Hum and Drift by Mark Rushton
Released in 2005, it's a blend of ambient, beats, ethnic, and electro instrumental music.  Available at iTunes, Napster, CDBaby, CafePress, Rhapsody, Amazon, Pandora, and Last.fm.

  • The Driver's Companion by Mark Rushton
Released in 2004, my first 'proper' album is an assortment of instrumental electronic rock, blues, odd jazz, and ambient.  Available at iTunes, Napster, CDBaby, CafePress, Rhapsody, Amazon, Pandora, Last.fm, and heard on SomaFM.com's Drone Zone.

  • Florilegium (MP3s 2000 to 2003) by Mark Rushton
Released in 2003, this is for the super hardcore fan who wants to hear all my early creations.  123 tracks on a single data CD.  Includes some 'early' mixes of tracks that ended up on The Driver's Companion, and a 27 minute version of 'Swimming Under Stars'.

  • Quiet Time by Mark Rushton
Released in 2003, an early ambient-oriented compilation.  Some of these tracks later ended up on The Driver's Companion, but in mastered form.
