May 28, 2005 Garden Update
It's been almost two years since the last update, but there have been many changes.

Mark removed the various plants in the front (bridal wreath, spirea) this spring and they were transplanted on another property. They were good plants, but wrong for this location. Ann split hostas from the north garden and transplanted them. This photo was taken in late May 2005. Since then we've had trouble with baby boxelders nibbling away and living in the area, but recently we learned that soapy water is fatal for the bugs and good for hostas so Ann's been applying the mixture to the area.

This is the north garden. Mostly all hostas. Not much else can live in this space since it never gets any sunlight.

The snow on the mountain is always beautiful. More perennials coming up by the fence.

The back corner, which used to have standing water when we first moved in. No more! We've built up the land over the years. Can you believe all that grass in the upper left photo was started from three very small plants that we bought for a dollar? Every year Ann just split it off. Now look what we've got!

More of the backyard. The snowball bush bloomed good, but our dogwood only had a few. Even though we are Zone 5, dogwoods can have a tough time this far north.

The lilacs bloomed good and had a wonderful scent. The viburnums are growing like mad, as are the burning bushes. We get a lot of compliments about this part of our yard. In the upper right photo is our privet, some lilacs, and further down by the stop sign is forsythia.

And here's the kids enjoying a well-manicured back yard and garden! (never mind all the creeping charlie, which we've learned to love)
