Our Gardens - April 28th
Lots of rain recently but not a lot of time to work outside. No big deal, as the "last frost" is usually considered to be about this time of year for Cedar Rapids. We were worried that the roses might have been completely killed thanks to our frigid winter but buds are starting to form off the base where we cut it back to a couple weeks ago.
These pictures were taken at the best resolution and then sized down, but the file sizes are still pretty big, so I've broken the pictures up into two pages. If you have a modem it might take a minute or two for everything to download. Those of you on broadband (DSL, Cable Modem, Company LAN, etc) should have no problem.
The tulips look great, but the concrete birdbath disintegrated
over the winter.

On the SW side of our house, by the back door, various
perennials peek out, plus some tulips.

Our next door neighbor's lovely crabapple tree, almost in full
bloom.

Back in the front, the forsythia bloomed at the base with
those yellow flowers. Our lilac on the left continues to grow.

Another look at the crabapple, plus the neighbors' mature
lilac bushes

In the backyard, our lilacs are leafing and blooming, but the
burning bushes have a ways to go (they always do), and our viburnam is starting
to leaf out. Within a couple weeks we'll have a fence in our backyard on
the "inside" of these bushes.
